Monster of the Day #87

“Palmolive?  You’re soaking in it!”

Also, and I’m not the first to mention it by any means, but yes, nothing says “mole” like gigantic eyes.  Also notable for being part of John Agar’s downward slide, and for being the only film where Agar is threatened by Alfred, Batman’s butler.  One of the lamer of Universal’s sci-fiers of the ’50s, although it does have its moments.

Decent cheese throughout, some enjoyable moments, and then an ending that really agrivates you to no end. Have a nice day.

All I can think of in regards to this movie is Mike Nelson mumbling, “Down and down…” Well, that and the Mole People popping up out of nowhere in Wild World of Batwoman.

That’s the best shot of one I’ve ever seen. MAN they’re even weirder-looking than I remember.

I’d imagine that not having eyelids would be a pain for a species that spends much of its time tunneling through dirt.

John Agar conquered prejudice with a flash light.

The ending ticks me off to no end. The whole thing about the Sumerian woman and what she could have done was way more interesting than anything that happened in the movie, but nope, gotta wrap things up.

A superior MST3K episode as well!

  • Ericb

An MST3K episode that I will sadly probably never see. I doubt that Universal will allow a DVD release of it.

Odd selection for a Don Post mask, isn’t it?

I actually have the Warren photocomic for this film, now to track down a Horror of Party Beach comic!

Best line: “They are not gods. Do they not eat when hungry? Do they not sleep when tired?”

Second best line: “He was called back to Heaven by Ishtar.”

Third best line: “The Flood’s been proven to be historical fact, why not a Sumarian version?”

Ericb – try YouTube. Folk there “keep circulating those tapes.”

  • I must say, this film really has a great cast for what it is; John Agar, Hugh Beaumont, Nestor Paiva, and Alan Napier all in one movie? Doesn’t get a whole lot better than that! (Okay, it does, but it’s still pretty awesome).

Damn, this was an MST3K episode? Let me guess, was it one of the shows from the ever-elusive Season 3?

  • Bruce Probst

No, it was Season 8 (first season of the Sci-Fi Channel era).

If folks aren’t already aware, every single episode of MST3K is available for download via BitTorrent. And if you can’t or won’t download, there are other people who have and will happily sell you DVDs of any episode you want for a couple of bucks to cover postage and blank disks (assuming you don’t know anyone who will do it for free). My only recommendation is that you don’t download (or buy downloaded copies of) episodes that have been released on official DVD, ‘cos that hurts the Brains’ (well former Brains) bottom line.

This episode eluded me to a maddening degree. The first time it was on, I had to leave halfway through and just decided to catch it next time. Next time it was on, I tried to tape it, but I forgot I’d left it on SP mode and the tape ran out. The time after that, my cable went out during the taping. If they ever played it again I missed it.

    Very crazy.
