Giant Spider Invasion SE DVD *IS* available…

…at least spottily.  As Scott Foy detailed the week the disc was listed, rights issues between the director of the film and Fred Olen Ray supposedly saw the two-disc set pulled from shelves.

Well, I ordered one from Amazon and got it, so there you go.  Chances are there are a few floating around, and you might snag one if you try.

Now I have to decide if I want to open it and listen to the commentary, etc., or keep it pristine when as a rare item its price goes up.

I was wondering what was going to happen. Fred Olen Ray has a big piece on his webpage about how he won the legal battle over the DVD rights to Invasion. I figured we were getting ready for legal battle # 2.

  • If I were Ray I’d just sue for (if he needs to) a chunk of what the new DVD draws in sales. Unless he’s planning his own reissue, then this would be found money for him, it would please fans by making the DVD available, and keep Synergy on its toes when releasing future discs (assuming it gets past this).

On the other hand, maybe he feels screwed by Bill Rebane and wants to screw him back.

  • Sweet. I wasn’t going to bother with this disc, because A) I already have the Retromedia one and B) I didn’t figure it would ever get released. I just bought it from Amazon, and it should be at my house in two days. Thanks for the heads-up, Ken.

My impression has been that Fred Ray really hates Rebane and wouldn’t mind sticking it to him (again).
