Monster of the Day #3637

The 80s was the last golden age for monster movies. They really seem to have fallen out of favor. (I think because most monsters are done via CGI now rather than played by actors.) Still, I haven’t seen a lot of these because it was also the golden age of gore movies, which was never my thing. Case in point, Xtro. I know it has it’s fans, though.

  • The Rev.

I finally watched this during October and quite enjoyed it. I'm not sure I would call it gory, but there is definitely a good deal of body horror imagery, so I guess it's a similar vein. They capture the weirdness of what is going on quite well, with only a couple stumbles (the giant toy soldier sequence is pretty silly despite its conclusion). The sequence with this critter was pretty great, though.

  • Didn't like it, but it'd been a billion years since I've seen it. And the stuff I DO like… heh heh heh.
