Monster of the Day #3519

After 30 Coins we watched The Boneyard, a zombie flick set in a morgue. It’s pretty good, I have to say, and I am famously zombied out. The film is best know for costarring Phyllis Diller in a largely non-comic role. I will say, the cast of largely (so I assume) local actors is surprisingly solid.

Way way way back, when DVDs were first starting (so a loooong time ago) there was a little independent company that sent me a screener of their new Boneyard disc. Sadly, the sound mix was so terrible you couldn’t watch it. That might have sunk the newbie company, which was terrible because they had had a Curse of Bigfoot / Teenagers vs the Thing disc in the works and were lightly consulting with me because of my CoB review. But the company tanked and the disc never saw the light of day, and indeed, there’s never been any sort of real CoB release on DVD or Blu Ray.

  • So in Teenagers V. the Thing did they end up fighting a giant moth?

(Yeah, I know what the movie really is. I just wanted to use the joke.)

They spray graffiti on Ben Grimm's car.

I'd never even heard of this one and was pleasantly delighted by it. Had a bit of a twist on the zombies' origins which was fun, some good acting (as Ken mentioned), Phyllis Diller and Norman Fell in fun little parts, well-done gore and make-up, and a couple of absolutely precious animatronic costumes. The screenshot here does not do this one justice. As he said, even Ken's zombied-out self enjoyed it. As a big zombie fan, I thought it was a bit of a minor gem. It does take a bit to really get going (although the acting and plot carried me through it), but once the zombies are loose it's great fun. Recommended for your next movie night.

Then he shouts "THING RING DO YOUR THING!" and the nebbishy teenager is covered with flying rocks and is ready to do battle with the Yancy Street Gang (stupid version).

  • I used to make a point of watching that cartoon, back in the day. The only thing I remember about it is a small clip I saw as an adult.

Does Phyllis portray one of the zombies?… I'll show myself out.
