Monster of the Day #3504

There are surprisingly few monsters on the covers of Terror Tales, but man, there are lots of half-dressed (if that) beauties about to split in half by buzzsaws or have acid dripped on them or other grotesque forms of mayhem. And these are not covers where a heroic chap is bursting onto the scene to save them. I mean, whatever works for you, but kind of a weird demographic to chase after. I guess they had dimes, though.

Kind of a random ramble, but the glimpse of the top of her stocking reminded me of something. My wife has been watching old Password's, and the guest was Ginger Rogers. The word was "stocking" and she glanced behind her and said "seam". The female contestant got it.

I doubt that that clue would work today.

Sometimes I wonder if there was a requirement for these weird menace pulps that every cover had to show some half-clad young lovely being menaced by some drooling goon. It's amazing how the artists were able to work so many variations on that one single idea for years.

Speaking of the Herculoids, go to YouTube and search for "The Herculoids as a 1980s Dark Fantasy – Super Panavision 70." I don't like their version of Gloop and Gleep, but otherwise it's pretty solid.

Sex and violence. Speaking of variations on a theme, what about that dude that painted all those '40s cheesecake images featuring dropping panties, where a woman in public carrying groceries or bowling or whatnot would suddenly find her panties falling down around their ankles. Their skirts would always be blown up to nearly waist level and there was usually a leering guy looking on. Talk about a specific fetish.

Sadly, though, he apparently seldomly included monsters in these things.
