Monster of the Day #3499

Godzilla 2000 back in theaters tonight for Godzilla Day. Not the greatest G film.  Orga being highly generic and forgettable is probably the biggest issue. Still, it’s the film that introduced Millennium Godzilla, who after millions of kids’ drawings was finally green,  with those nice giant purple spines. I really did like the introduction of the long build-up to use his atomic breath.  Indeed, my favorite scene by far was both Godzilla and the alien ship building up energy to blast each other, shot like a Sergio Leone gunfight scene.  Of course, the dramatic build-up to using his ray has stuck around in the Legendary Godzilla films.

And hey, Godzilla movie in the theater.

Watch Party on Friday, right? I nearly forgot. Too much stuff going on.

  • This is as good a place as any to mention that in addition to the Godzilla v. Megalon short coming this year, there’s also a Godzilla v. Jet Jaguar. Ken might get behind this one a little more than the other one, as it looks like it’s all practical effects.

I’m made my peace with CGI Godzilla films, although obviously I don’t love them as much.
