Monster of the Day #3481

If there’s one thing we know…it’s that animals hate sports!

Also, participants at last week’s Watch Party might have been more entertained if we’d gotten this version of Girl Gang:

  • 🐻 bgbear_rnh

    Corporal Reddick. snicker. ISWTDT

  • Okay, we have a bear going after a pitcher, which suggests the Cubs are REALLY DETERMINED to go to the World Series, and a marlin attacking a boxing match, which is really kinda fishy don’t you think?

  • I went back and watched Girl Gang, since I’d missed the Watch Party, and it was just weird for an exploitation flick. Definitely a lot of depressing crammed into an hour, with none of the manic energy that Dwaine Esper brought to everything he touched. Also for a movie about a girl gang it all seemed to center on a male drug dealer, who’s the driving force for every, single thing that happens. Not boring exactly, just wouldn’t be my first choice if I was introducing someone to the dubious joys of roadshow exploitation. Don’t regret it but also glad I probably don’t have to watch it again.

    It’s a fight to the fin-ish.

The weirdest thing to me (aside from, as you say, the quick sidelining of the Girl Gang) is that *Doc* is the one hunted down and killed at the end, like he was the big villain. But Timothy Farrell is just arrested with everyone else. Odd scripting.

  • Yeah, to me Doc was more an object of pity than a real villain. He’d already lost everything to his addiction and was now just as trapped in the gang work as any of the teen junkies. He at least seems to have an (admittedly ineffectual) conscience about what they are doing. Storywise his death would have been better had it been redemptive somehow.

  • DAMN IT DAMN IT DAMN IT! I knew there was a pun there! I knew it! Why couldn’t I think of it! ARGH!

  • What also would have helped storywise was if there was a plot there, instead of just a series of random events.

  • Ooh, just saw that Doc was Buster Keaton’s younger brother. Interesting, which is mostly more than the movie was.

  • So like Hercules?

Let’s face it, we’re no strangers to the random events plot around here. :)

Hey, there ain’t no rule that says a bear *can’t* play baseball!

Yes, not all movies can be as tightly scripted as The Lucifer Complex or Alabama’s Ghost.

  • Ken_Begg

That’s what Bill Veeck would have said!

  • Lucifer Complex is much worse a film than Girl Gang and it has a plot.
