Speaking of posters that are slightly better than the movie…..

Happy Wednesday, folks. Saw Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind for the first time last night, in a nice silent respectful theater, and it was amazing. When Japan makes an animated film with environmental themes, they make Nausicaa. When we make one here we get Ferngully the Last Rainforest.

Tonight I take my first look at Castle in the Sky.

    Sadly, I had to forgo Castle in the Sky. I got like four hours of sleep after Nausicaa (I work strange hours), so I was toasted all day. My plan was to get home around 2:30 PM, nap for two / three hours, and get up to see Castle. HOWEVER…when I got home, I learned the gas company had to do work and shut down my gas, and then I had to call in and have a guy come out to turn all my stuff back on (as is required here), so no nap, and….just too beat to see it. Damn sorry about it. Maybe they’ll bring that one back next year.

    Nausicaa has great world building and animation, but yes, the characters are what stick with me, maybe the villains moreso than the heroes. I have to chew over it some more, but it was terrific.
