[Sub/Dub UPDATE] Shin Ultraman in theaters this Wed/Thurs

Just as a reminder, the recent theatrical film Shin Ultraman will be in theaters via Fathom Events this Wednesday and Thursday evening. Check the Fathom Events website to see what theater near you might be playing it. It’s not like we get a lot of chances to see this stuff on the big screen.

UPDATE:  Fathom Events changed their format, so that I didn’t see the sub/dub information. (That was moved from where it used to be.) Be aware that, at least where I am, Wednesday screening–i.e., tomorrow night–are subtitled and feature the original Japanese soundtrack, while Thursday night’s screenings are dubbed into English.

So I guess I’m going tomorrow. Too bad, I have Friday off and it would have been nice to go that night.

Wow, an Ultraman movie? In the theaters? Thanks for the heads-up!

  • Gamera977

Oh wow! I just finished the series and just started on Ultra Seven last week!

  • Ken_Begg

I’m not the biggest Ultra Man guy, but I can’t wait. Again, how many chances do we get to see this stuff in theaters?

I noticed there was a “Shin Godzilla” a few years ago. Does “Shin” mean anything, other than the thing that gets bashed when you have to get up at night?

  • It means either “True” of “God”, as I recall it. And I’m being literal; it can mean both.

  • Ticket already bought.

It can also mean “new.” Depends on how it’s written. It has multiple meanings, but “true/god/new” are the most applicable here.

  • I knew I was forgetting one meaning.

Cullen! I hope you saw the new place where they tell you whether it’s the subtitled or dubbed version. See the above update, Wed appears to be subtitled night, Thursday the dub night.

  • Ken_Begg

Rev, I can’t imagine you won’t see this. As a far bigger fan of Ultraman, I look forward to seeing your reaction.

  • No worries. Eagerness pays off for once; I already got a ticket for Wednesday/Sub. Though it might be more inline with childhood memories if I had gone dubbed…

  • Ken_Begg

I agree, but… It wouldn’t be the sort of adorable klutzy dubbing we had as kids, it would be a more boring professional level of dubbing. But yeah, while I wouldn’t go see a dubbed anime film, this is the one genre where if all there was was the dub, I would still go see it.

I’ve got my ticket for Thursday night. I’ll be sure to pop my thoughts here, buddy.
Speaking of which, this weekend I also intend to get back on track with Chainsaw Man. I couldn’t watch it during my extended family visit over the holidays, and last weekend ended up having other things going on, but with a long weekend I should be able to finally catch up.

  • The Rev.

I was about to go change my ticket to tonight’s showing as I didn’t even notice tomorrow’s dubbed not subbed. However, I’ll go ahead and stick to my original plan so we can get perspectives on both versions.
