Monster of the Day #3315

After Cat and the Canary Sandy busted out the first episode of the latest Russian version of Sherlock Holmes, which proved to be quite fun. It’s period (and one of the few shows where things especially in the slum areas look realistically filthy). It’s about as faithful as, say, the Cumberbatch Holmes, by which I mean, not very. Still, Holmes and Watson stand up well to quite diverse interpretation, a credit to Conan Doyle’s “unimportant” work.

Next we gathered Arthur’s four daughters and some of the various cousins in attendance and watched the first two episodes of Bofuri, as I’d brought a Blu Ray copy for the girls. I was unsurprised but still relieved that they really all seemed to really like it. Of course they watched the dubbed version, which I sort of winced at, but the youngest daughter is five, so…..  Also, the show does have ONE off-color joke in the subtitled 2 episodes and a few side characters drop the S bomb, and I was also relieved (as their mom was sitting there watching it too) that the dub version skips over that stuff. So….whew.  Believe me, you don’t want to get the fish eye from Debbie.

I loved a lot of stuff this weekend, but sharing Duck Soup with Arthur’s oldest and Bofuri with a pack of the kiddies remain probably my favorite parts.
