Monster of the Day #3304

In honor of Godzilla Day yesterday, Toho posted on the Godzilla Channel on YouTube a new short, Godzilla vs Gigan Rex. It’s very fun, and it’s always thrilling to hear Ifukube’s music. It’s also got a great neato Godzilla design.

They quickly pulled down the Godzilla vs Hedorah short earlier this year, so watch it while you can.

Have a great weekend, everyone! Watch something stupid. In fact, watch something stupid with us tonight at the Watch Party. Meanwhile, I’ll see several of you next week in Rockwall.

  • Those who haven’t had enough of Godzilla fighting Gigan, look up Godzilla vs Gigan 2022 Short Film on YouTube. Here is another fight, this time with suits.

Next year’s Megalon’s fiftieth birthday, and I look forward to all the films made with BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Coudn’t finish the tought. No way poor Megalon gets a movie.

  • Eric Hinkle

I watched it and the new way they did Gigan was a surprise. He’s certainly more dangerous now than before.

  • Gamera977

Yeah, I always thought of Gigan as kinda a chump. Only King Ghidrah seemed to ever be a real challenge to Big-G. But a pack attack from multiple Gigans would be pretty deadly. And the candy apple red Gigan Rex was formidable!

  • Wellm you were right. That was officially stupid

  • There are three other Kaiju that gave Godzilla a run for his money.

Hedorah, arguably the nastiest of Godzilla’s foes, had our favorite radioactive dino on the ropes. There’s one scene where Hedorah is standing over Godzilla, pouring toxic waste on the Big Guy, and he can’t do anything about it. If it weren’t for the intervention of the human forces, the Smog Monster might have won.

Then there’s Mothra, who always bests Godzilla. Even in dying during their first encounter she gets what she needs done.

But the Kaiju that has Godzilla’s number? Who Godzilla fought and never defeated? That’s Rodan. Watch Ghidorah again: he owns the big guy.

EDITED TO ADD: My brother and I consider Gigan the Starscream of Godzilla films. He’s okay when the odds are in his favor, but once the tide turns, he splits. Love the hell out of him.
