The second movie we watched Friday was Exorcist II: The Heretic. It’s as goofy as a film as you’d expect from the guy who directed Zardoz. What were they thinking? About an hour in I realized it might actually be dumber than Return of the Ape Man. Burton is fully in his awful period, and his rote “I believe in FAITH! / I believe in SCIENCE!” debates with Louise Fletcher are as facile as can be. Still a fun watch, and it lasted nearly two hours and nobody was ever bored.
