Monster of the Day #3298

So my friend Matt couldn’t get the rights to show Dr. Phibes (although he could have shown the sequel??) at the Pickwick last night. So he showed House of Wax in 2-D, Vincent Price’s first horror movie. It’s very fun and Price is great and it costars Lois Lane and Morticia Addams and Charles Bronson before he assumed his screen name. And, of course, Price, who as usual is tremendous. House of Wax is a remake of the recently MotD subject Mystery of the Wax Museum.

Even nicer, Victoria Price, Vincent’s daughter, was there live talking about her dad. Good stuff.

Yeah, set aside my grousing about paddle-ball man- it’s a great film!

The only other issue is how Price while wearing the mask somehow seems to have full facial movement. But I think it’s necessary for the film, it wouldn’t work without it.

Reminds me that I saw an early 30s action film with John Wayne where the villain was using a full function Mission Impossible type mask. An old suspension of belief trope.

I hesitate to ask this, but… she wasn’t talking about his private life, was she? A short time ago I read some crowing comments elsewhere online about how she was revealing rather more than she needed to about her father’s love life. The whole thing struck me as really tasteless.
