Monster of the Day #3285

As announced, last Friday’s watch party was C.H.U.D., and needless to say everyone had a blast. C.H.U.D. is one of those minor, well crafted pieces of fine cheese that kept us trolling the video store shelves back in the day. You’d watch a hundred pieces of junk, but then you’d find something like C.H.U.D. or John Sayles’ Alligator (the movie that most reminds me of C.H.U.D., tone-wise) or Tremors. Good stuff.

Also, again, practical effects.

Next watch party a week from Friday.

    It was CHUDalicious!!!!

Is this the CHUD that learned the hard way it’s a bad idea to break into a panicked woman with a sword’s apartment and do neck stretching exercises?

I liked that it seemed like a traditional 50s like monster movie and really was not that gory.

  • Such a great movie. I love how the couple, who is usually supposed to be the leads in this sort of thing, get supplanted by the two “minor” characters.

Missed the watch party, but I see the film is available on Tubi. Maybe I’ll watch it there.

  • Sat down and watched this this evening since I missed last weekend and was surprisingly pleased (No, never watched it in high school like all my friends. I thought it was a zombie movie, and I *hate* zombie movies). It really captured the nastiness of early 80s New York with all the location shooting and cheap film stock. None of the acting was bad (and more before-they-were-famous than I expected) and the practical effects stood up surprisingly well. Keeping it under 90 minutes always helps.
