Monster of the Day #3278

Sadly I couldn’t find a still of the goofy glowy flies. Here’s a shock 3-D effect with a skeleton though. Boo! Still from Amityville 3-D.

  • Now this was really kind of irritating. Was she still supposed to be alive? Was she a ghost now? What the hell?

All the deaths in this bothered me. As I recall the original, no one in the present dies in it. The presence in the house corrupts. The one priest who tries to help gets blinded, not killed. The father is slowly driven to kill his family. So on, so forth.

The way the movie should have run like this: The photographer and the daughter experience the weirdness, each incident worse than the last. They try to warn the dad, only to be met each time with a small smile and him saying, “There’s nothing wrong here.”

In the last act, the two come across incontrovertible proof the house has something wrong with it. They try to escape, only to find the dad standing in their way. He has an ax in his hands, that same smile on his face. “There’s nothing wrong here,” he says one more time, then spends the rest of the flick trying to kill them.

So much wrong with that movie.

“You look like you could use a massage. Come closer.”

Frankly that’s a much better monster than the silly fly. Though as goofy as the fly looked in 2D it must have been an absolute riot in 3D.

Lyz, of course, should be the go-to for Amityville reviews. You should have invited her to the watch party!

  • The Rev.

Unless I’m mistaken those would be at 11 am Saturdays her time. Which means, yes, we should.
