Monster of the Day #3269

This is the monster that opens Voyage into Space, as well as the series, because it ties into Johnny Sokko getting the Flying Robot. I love sea monsters, and colorful sea monsters are rare, outside of Destination Inner Space.

One of the odder touches of the series was that Dakolar here, a sea monster, was later brought back (or maybe it was a variant version Guillotine created) as a subterranean monster with sandstorm powers.

Despite all the things I need to watch for a first time, I’m getting a hankerin’ to re-watch this. I really enjoyed it. Even though they did my boy Spider dirty.

If only Sea Monkeys looked like this…

  • Beckoning Chasm

The movie makes me wonder if the folks behind Neon Genesis Evangelion watched this, and said “I bet we could do this, only with really unlikeable characters and a much more depressing overview.”

    With odd religious overtones.
