The Portage Theater in Chicago will present a triple monster bill on Saturday, Nov 29th–the Saturday following Thanksgiving. Ten bucks will see you enjoying The Creature Walks Among Us (6:00), Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster (7:30) and Horror of Dracula (9:20). Great stuff.
Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster was the first Godzilla movie I saw as a kid, and thus the version I imprinted on. To this day the two “Pacific Island” Godzillas (this and Son of Godzilla) in many ways remain my favorite Godzilla movies, even though a large segment of the Godzilla fan community holds them in some contempt. In any case, I am thrilled at the opportunity to see this movie up on a theater screen.
Horror of Dracula I saw theatrically as a tyke, on a drive-in triple bill with the Italian giallo The Embalmer and (although I feel asleep before the end) Frankenstein’s Bloody Terror. I saw it again a few years ago at the Music Box Theatre. Christopher Lee made a live appearance to introduce the film.
Don’t even try to tell me these are better days at the movies.
