Monster of the Day #3405

What the heck, Germans? I expect you guys to be more precise than this.

  • Beckoning Chasm

“Godzilla: The Dracula and the Dachshund”

  • Gamera977

I do occasionally get Godzilla’s mail by mix-up.

And imagine how bad it is for BarUgon and BarAgon…

  • Gamera977

Going though the old MotDs I also found ‘Tales From the Third Dimension’ on YouTube. This one was MUCH better. I’d say it’s even a minor gem. Although I didn’t understand the title (don’t we live in a three-dimensional world?) the stories were fun!

Saddest point was the YouTube comments, the vultures were plainly intended as nods to ‘Laurel and Hardy’ and ‘The Three Stooges’ but no one recognized them. What’s the world coming to!?! I think someone did recognize the Rod Sterling impersonation by the skelly though.

    Gyaos ans Space Gyaos.

For what it’s worth, they at least credited the actual cast. A lot of German releases claimed Asian monster movies had fictional American actors. Take, for example, YONGARY, MONSTER FROM THE DEEP, which they released as “Godzilla’s Death March” and claimed as it’s star one “George Stampelton”! One wonders which of the distinctly Korean cast was supposed to be George!

  • The Rev.

We watched that during a T-Fest weekend a year or so ago (don’t recall if it was an official Fest pick right now). It was surprisingly entertaining for something most of us had never heard of; I’d say “minor gem” is about right. I was quite delighted when the final story with the grandmother at Christmas started, as I had seen that particular tale in a holiday video mash-up our local Alamo Drafthouse guys had run before the plague. I’d been thoroughly amused by it and had hoped to see it again.

“A steamy tale of forbidden romance!”

  • Gamera vs. Barugon -> Godzilla, the Dragon from the Jungle

So why do Godzilla movies become Frankenstein movies, but Gamera movies become Godzilla movies?
