Monster of the Day #3339

Kind of redundant, but here’s a better look at the split shell I mentioned earlier this week. Weird, and I don’t think anyone’s still around to explain what they were going for with this. Apparently it was dropped because the split was unwieldy during filming, and so they just threw up their hands and stitched it together. It’s a pretty weird look, anyway.

  • Beckoning Chasm

I wonder if the shell was split for practical terms–it gave the stunt performer more flexibility, or better air circulation/heat dissipation…something like that.

  • Gamera977

I dunno. They do look a lot like beetle wing shields in that photo.

  • That’s a better movie than I remembered it being. Though it is clear Toho didn’t quite know what they had yet. King Kong v. Godzilla would straighten that out.

  • Killer Meteor

My wife and I re-created this scene today when we played the Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Mellee on the Nintendo Game Cube!
