Monster of the Day #3396

A rather bland poster for a rather bland film. At least they have an excuse; it’s a Republic picture, not from 20th Century Fox. I guess it’s kind of interesting that they highlight the exotic elements of the film, which (if I can remember waaaaaaaaaay back when) takes place in Africa, presumably to save money by using the jungle sets from all the jungle movies the poverty row studios churned out. At least they actually painted fangs in him, although (of course) they don’t appear in the film. I think Horror of Dracula was the first English language vampire film that had fangs in it.

Anyway, happy Friday, everyone! Watch something stupid this weekend.

Should’ve gone all out. “The Vampire’s Ghost from the Future of Space” would have covered more bases.

I was sitting there wondering why he had three fangs before I saw that there was just a highlight shine on his lip…

    Buscemi Vampire

Count Chocula sounds like Count Breakfast Cereal. How ’bout if I’m Count Dracula? That sounds good to me. I’ll be Count Dracula.

You’re not Count Dracula. Some guy on some other job is Count Dracula you’re Count Chocula.

That works in both Buscemi’s voice and Gilbert Gottfried’s.

  • almost looks like Bing Crosby the vampire to me,

And Bob Hope as Junior Renfield.

  • And Dorothy Lamour as Mina. Or Lucy. Depending on the version.

Crooning: “Lehhht me driiiiink your bloooooood, dear.”

With the Bingster, that would be more like “ba-ba-ba-blood”.

Leigh Brackett seems to be following me all over the place lately. Famous of course, for the first draft of Empire Strikes Back, along with a boatload of science fiction.

There would have to be a scene where Count Bingula and whoever Mina is are pairing off for a musical number, and Renfield turns to the audience and says, “Okay folks, this is the musical number. You can all go to the snack bar now.”

There are worse writers you can be followed by.

  • Ken_Begg

Ha! That was such a great joke. Also in…Horse Feathers? One of the Marx Brothers movies.
