Monster of the Day #3359

They didn’t have an actual Godzilla movie, but they had an episode (or more?) of the old Hanna-Babera Godzilla series. Yes, yes, the one with Godzookie, the Scrappy Doo of the Godzilla world. Here Godzilla fought the Fire Bird. Sounds fun, I wouldn’t mind seeing more of this in the future. I mean, a Jonny Quest or Thundaar episode at B-Fest? Sign me up.

  • Godzilla Official on Youtube has been putting these up in three part installments, and I’ve been enjoying the hell out of them. They’re really no better than the crap Hanna Barbera was normally craps out, and if you look carefully you can see the potential for better stuff around the edges. Rumor has it that the show runners wanted to do a more serious version and got rebuffed. Whatever the story, I always get a nostalgia kick whenever Godzilla appears.

Pity they didn’t use the real roar. Kinda throws me out every now and then.

Speaking of children shows, Godzilla Official also has a Godzilla puppet show called Godziban. It’s about Godzilla-kun (not Godzilla, he’ll tell you that flat) and his two brothers Minilla and Little as they train to be the best monsters they can be. Very silly and probably too young for me, but I enjoy it.

BTW, Ken, If you are looking for silly reptiles, you could make Disney’s Reluctant Dragon, the cartoon Pete and the not-so-silly Pete remake MOTD’s

Just the one episode at B-Fest, this one here with the Firebird. But it was a nice flashback to a time long ago. This and a Viewfinder set with condensed stories from the Marvel run (which I wouldn’t know for many years) were my first exposure to the King of the Monsters. This actually had more monster stuff than I was expecting, which is good because the human stuff’s pretty bleh. And, of course, Godzooky sucks.

I actually liked this silly cartoon, but I saw it when I was in a ‘all things Godzilla are awesome’ stage.

Never fought a Fire Bird but I drive one.

    Or Trans Am anyway.

Sorta remember this, my sister used to watch it way back when. It was back when a home had only one TV (kid’s ask your parents about it) so we all ended up watching it.
