Monster of the Day #3345

That Love and Monsters cross over with The Neverending Story was weird.

Just read the wikipedia summary of this, it sounds fun, but there is a lot of hero-death-exemption going on.

That’s another ill effect of CGI, all the blades that pass in slow motion right over someone’s face, etc. Look at the Fast and Furious movies. Look, I love crazy action but you should ground it a little.

Finally got a chance to see this, and I recommend it. If you’re a CGI-phobe you might sniff at it, but it’s a lot of fun, has great characters, the effects are pretty seamless and–Ken…there’s a cool dog.

I think my reputation for hating CGI has been a bit exaggerated. I don’t like CGI being used instead of, you know, writing a good script and stuff like that. Used appropriately, it’s a great tool. I will say I don’t think it has the charm of practical effects, and one reason kids don’t care about monsters at all is that it’s harder to relate to a CGI monster.
