Monster of the Day #3302

Sandy kicked off our post-Fest Sunday with The Shrine, a 2010 mystery/horror film largely set in Poland. Delightfully, the central female character is allowed to be a selfish asshole rather than being completely virtuous all the time. The film also ably uses the sense of paranoia you can feel when you go to a foreign land and can’t understand what anyone is saying. It’s pretty good stuff.

  • If there is a disappointment in my going to T-Fest, missing this movie is it. Never heard of it before, which makes it the best kind of horror flick.

Is that a statue, or the actual monster from the movie?

  • Beckoning Chasm

I was wondering the same thing.

Statue. Wikipedia has an image of the poster. (I put a link but it is in moderation)

“sense of paranoia you can feel when you go to a foreign land and can’t understand what anyone is saying.”

I had that exact feeling on a Russian bus between a fogged in airport and one that wasn’t. It was the middle of the night in Siberia with a bunch of drunk Russians. One kept trying to strike up a conversation with me. I thought “The only thing I need now is for a bunch of Werewolves to attack the bus.”
