Monster of the Day #3300

I was afraid there wasn’t enough monsters for the line-up (sadly, the incredible octopus from yesterday appears for like ten seconds), so I showed the dire Winterbeast. Its like Equinox made by the untalented. It’s astoundingly cheap, and the monsters don’t stay on screen for nearly long enough. But they are adorable and there are lots of them. And yes, that’s supposed to be a person the monster is pulling the head off of. Also, kudos to the guy who played the mayor, whose amazingly scenery-chewing performance gave the film some much needed juice.

My Winterbeast theory: the director taught a film-making class and had the students each do a stop-motion animation piece. When he got them all together, he thought, “Hm, I bet I could make a feature out of these.”

  • I’ve asked this question before, but I didn’t note the responses, so forgive me for asking again: What were the T-Rex movies for 2013, 2014 and 2018?

  • Ken_Begg

Chad R is our official historian these days. Chad?

  • The sole reason this movie exists is to make Frostbiter look better by comparison. And for me to confuse it with Frostbiter. Because of course I did..

  • Chad R.

I believe those would be Rebirth of Mothra III (aka Mothra 3: King Ghidorah Attacks), The Land Unknown and The Lost World (the silent one) in that order.

  • So you watched The Land Unknown in both 2006 and 2014?

  • Chad R.

Hmm. It’s possible. More research is necessary!

  • Chad R.

The 2014 T-Rex movie was actually Unknown Island (1948). I apologize for the error.

  • Thanks!

So, when the T-Rex in any given film shows up on screen, do you all start applauding?

  • Chad R.

    Well *obviously.*

Thanks a lot for this monster of the day thing! I’m huge into monster movies and you’ve introduced me to a good few that I hadn’t heard of before!
