We Are What We Buy (Aug 2008)

Ah, demographics. Let’s find out what we bought this month.

Thanks, as always, to the kind soul who clicked on us before buying something like the Equus 3030 Innova Diagnostic Code Reader for OBDII (Post-1996) Vehicles. I know ALL you guys are buying these, so please remember! Actually, if anyone does buy a HD TV or something before the changeover next year, hitting a link here would be cool.

Books? Several law textbooks (ching, ching) being bought made my month merry. Looks like maybe some books got bought for an English class, including A Clockwork Orange, Wide Sargasso Sea and a tome on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. Cormac McCarthy’s The Road (soon to be a movie) sold a copy, as did “Retreat, Hell!” a military book; the 2008 Football Prospectus; the Acme Novelty Library #19; Flashman at the Charge (yay!); Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl; and The Devil’s Secret (manga).

Music: Albums by Rush (Farewell to Kings), REM (Accelerate and Document), Don Henley, Joe Satriani, and two copies of The Mekons Rock ‘n Roll album.

Somebody bought some blank VHS tapes. Is that hipster-retro yet?

Somebody else bought a bunch of Marvel’s DVD-ROM series where you can get decades worth of comics to read and review on your computer. I got the FF myself a while ago, and it’s pretty amazing. Mad Magazine has one of those, too, I think. Anyway, they bought Amazing Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer, The Incredible Hulk and Ghost Rider (yay!). Thanks, man!

Ah, finally, the movies. The big seller this month was Mystery Science Theater the 20th Anniversary set, which sold four copies. I think that was Eric’s suggestion for me to link to, so thanks, buddy. Three copies of Firefly the Series and The James Bond Ultimate Collection also went. Three copies were also sold of the Derek Flint Collection; I hope you guys like it. I love that first movie. Two people bought the third set of The Three Stooges Collection, two others the Pink Panther Cartoon Collection when that was on sale. Selling one copy each was Bloodrayne; Chilling Classics 50 Movie Set; Doctor Who The Time Meddler; Keeping up with the Kardashians (?); LA Ink; Maneater Collection Vol 2 (oh, Sandy, when will you learn?); The Matt Helm Collection (Dino!); Serenity; Support Your Local Sheriff/Gunfighter (yay!), The Lon Chaney Collection (cool); the upcoming The Little Rascals the Complete Collection; and the new special edition of The Nightmare Before Christmas.

That’s it. I sincerely hope everyone enjoys their purchases. Thanks for using the links.

Those two “Mekon’s Rock’n Roll” cd’s were mine. I double ordered it by mistake and canceled one of them. I guess you still get credit even if an order is canceled.

The two “Mekon’s Rock’n Roll” cds were mine. I ordered it twice by mistake and later cancelled one of them. I guess they give you credit even if an order is cancelled

  • I kind of figured that. That’s OK, they don’t issue a cash credit until it ships, and then there’s a two month gap between sales and payment to cover returns.

A good month, though. Thanks, everybody.

I’ve got a couple of the Marvel DVDs, and while it’s nice to have all that stuff, the lack of any kind of search function makes it more difficult than it should be.

I mean, if I wanted to find all the FF issues that had Galactus, I’d either have to have an ecyclopaedic knowledge of the series (believe it or not, I don’t have this) or a handy website.

Those Marvel DVD-ROMs (as well as one of the Bond collections) were mine. (At that price, I couldn’t not get the Bond set, and they had combo deals on the Marvels at the same time, so I figured, why not?) Thanks for pointing out the Bond collection; it was something I’d been eying for a while, but the regular price was a tad steep.

“La Ink” and “Keeping up with the Kardashians” that was me.
