Sorry about the lack of a front page thumbnail. I’ve having Imgur issues again.
Monday, blech. Still, I leave Thursday for Houston, then on to Rockwall for the spring T-Fest. Yay! So no site “updates” (If I can call them that) from Friday through the following Tuesday.
Thought since it was a short week I’d highlight some toys I own. I own a lot of Godzilla figures, since I’ve been buying them forever. However, over the years I’ve picked up other pieces occasionally, some of which (like this one) I’ve never unboxed. I picked this one up at Wonder Fest years ago, that being a model building convention I attended with a friend who builds and paints fantastic models. I’m glad I grabbed this, apparently they only made 30 (!) of these. Maybe I should just leave it in the box, I might need to sell or barter it after we go all Mad Max.
I was pleased to see Demon Slayer Mugen Train go so well. Indeed, it’s the highest grossing US debut for a foreign language film. There are dubbed showings, so I don’t know what the break-down is, but most of the showings do seem to be subtitled. Anyway, I’d like to see more anime films come over, and get regular releases (as opposed to one day releases), so this is good news. It was beating by Mortal Kombat (22 to 19.5 million, respectively). An argument for both can be both, actually, Mortal Kombat made more, and that was with it also premiering for ‘free’ to HBOMax subscribers. So viewership overall was possibly quite a bit higher. On the other hand, Demon Slayer made nearly as much at theaters while showing on about half the screens (1,600 vs 3050). Anyway, Demon Slayer has been insanely successful worldwide already, so the US take is just gravy. Hopefully this inspires more theatrical movies for popular series, and not just Pokemon or My Hero Academia (which I’ve yet to watch). Also, since my wish in life is to see K-On! the Movie in a theater before I die, maybe this made that just a tiny bit more likely.
