Back home from T-Fest…more tomorrow…

T-Fest was, if I say so myself, a pretty successful affair.  It’s was especially great to see Jabootu friends old (the Chads, Lawyer Chris, Kirk and Patty, and so on) and new (Mary, Galaxy Jane, etc.)  Anyway, I’m pretty bushed, and I have to go get my car back from the dealer later, so I’ll write more extensively tomorrow.  Thanks to everyone who attended.  If you’d like to leave your impressions in the message field below, have at it.

Don’t get too comfortable there, Ken. We haven’t forgotten Samurai Cop. Vengeance is coming, Ken, and she’s riding a fast horse.

Also, that guy from Captain Kronos, Vampire Hunter who I thought was Robert Z’Dar? He’s actually named Perry Soblosky. Seriously, have a look at the movie. They have a startling resemblance. But any resemblance to Robert Z’dar would be startling, I suppose.

  • Don’t dance with the devil if you don’t wish to be burned, my friend.

  • This year was great. Ken learned the universal Texas greeting, ate buffalo, and got to revel is the suffering of his fellow T-fest attendees as they sat through The Harrad Experiment.

  • Chad R.

Harrad Experiment was cake. As I said, Samurai Cop was this year’s Excruciator. And I like to play up how painful these things are. I know how gratifying Ken finds that.

  • I just want to thank everyone who reached out to a newcomer and made her feel welcome at her first T-Fest. I find it really intimidating to meet new people by myself, so I really appeciated the warm reception I recieved.

    Thanks,
    Mary

  • And I enjoyed Harrad Experiment, which possibly makes me the sickest person in the room. I just find bad sociology to be really, really funny

Oh, thank goodness, Mary and Galaxy Jane are the same person! Ken’s message made me go, “How did I miss noticing that there was someone named Galaxy Jane there?”

I thought Samurai Cop was, in context, quite possibly the funniest thing that I had ever seen. I can see how if you were to watch it home alone that it would induce deep hurting… Oh, sorry Ken.

I am very sad to read that Sandy’s company is relocating. That office was simply Nerd Nirvana. It was Bad Movie Brigadoon. I hated to go to my own office on Monday.

Gotta agree; I thought Harrad was pretty bad, and it was, but Samurai Cop was definitely the make-or-break film of this year’s Fest. It was no Funky Forest, thank God/Allah/Buddha/Odin/Zeus/Osiris/Azathoth/etc., but damn did it just draaaaag. I don’t know if a bad action movie trumps a bad comedy, but a case could certainly be made for this one.

It was great to meet the new victims (who hopefully will continue to join us), say hi to the veterans, and basically just enjoy a day of cinema great and terrible. (Mostly terrible, of course.)
I mean, any day I get to quote Flash Gordon, have it be relevant, AND have everyone in the room get the reference and laugh with me…that there is a very good day.

    P.S. Which one was GalaxyJane?

  • GalaxyJane goes by Mary in RL (and trust me it’s a long geeky story). I was the one with the short reddish hair hiding in the back of thet theater until after supper :)

  • There was an actual Jane there too (pretty Asian girl in a yellow dress), which may account for the confusion.

  • The Rev. D.D.

I’m glad I didn’t just assume you were the pretty Asian girl then!
I remember seeing you but didn’t get a chance to chat. Hopefully next time!
