Monster of the Day #3161

After the third movie, the Daimajin series was flailing around for a new direction. However, the fourth film, which attempted to cash in on the recent massive success of Saturday Night Fever, effectively killed the series.

  • He needed to fight a monster. Just once. He might be better remembered today if he had.

    Don’t get me wrong. Great flicks. Just needed more monsters.

    For reasons I cannot explain, I still have not seen the Daimajin movies. Considering some of the garbage giant monster movies I have seen, it’s inexplicable. I really do need to correct that.

  • So long as you go in to them ready for a nice long wait for the giant monster, you should be fine. They’re great little samurai flicks as well.

    Speaking of weird series, can somebody put the three Toho Yokai Wars films out on Blu Ray, please?

    I seem to recall finding the first two for free on YouTube a few months back. They may still be available there.

    (Warning, spoilers) I remember seeing the first two on local TV as a boy on Shock Theater. It lived up to its name that day — I was shocked to see that evil daimyo get nailed to the wall. Literally!
