Monster of the Day #3145

Groan! Monday is upon once more. But hey, for many of us there’s another three day weekend coming. (Followed by a short work week, the extra blessing of the Monday holiday.)

First of all, if you want to see a great bad airplane crash–and I know you do–go to YouTube, check for Valley of Mystery (a Peter Graves TV movie), and start watching about 12 minutes in. It’s terrific.

Speaking of terrific, I recently bought the show Neo Ultra Q, a 2013 continuation of the absolutely wonderful Ultra Q TV show. I really feared it would suck, but it’s doesn’t! I have only watch five of the (sadly) only 12 episodes, but it really does a good job of capturing the feel of the earlier series, while, if anything, integrating even more of a classic Twilight Zone feel. It’s pretty great, and my fears that CGI would replace suitmation was unfounded. The show is less focused on giant monsters but is still really good. Best, it captures the way the original show would jump from menace in one episode to whimsy in the next.

That monster is so cute! Who’s a good monster? You are, yes you are!

He’s very somber, though. In a formal, polite Japanese sort of way.

I wondered if this was monster was Pigmon’s brother, but apparently this is Burezaren the Laundry Monster.

    Welp I’m sold.

Seriously? He’s a laundry monster? [Checks online] By gosh, he is. And apparently he pukes cleaning fluid on people. Man but Japan has some great crazy ideas for their movies.

I think it’s because Yokai and tsukumogamis and such lend themselves to such a non-European conception of the supernatural.

So does he get stubborn stains out or does he turn you into a stain on the pavement?

    One way to find out….
