Monster of the Day #3141

Might was well stick with Full Moon Entertainment for a while. I’ve argued before that Charles Band was the logical successor to Roger Corman, producing reliably fun, witty low-budget genre films in the ’80s and ’90s. Meridian was full Corman, a ‘sexy’ version of Beauty and the Beast that brings certain aspects of the story that are usually implied to the fore, with lots of nudity to help things along. Sherilyn Fenn, like many before her, found the heat from starring on Twin Peaks to be not a guarantee of success, and sort of became the softcore queen for a while with stuff like this and Two Moon Junction. Anyway, an important milestone in the evolution of the Furry crowd. If nothing else, I assume it’s better made than Larry Buchanan’s Tanya’s Island, or Mistress of the Apes.

  • I love how the cover works very hard to make her look as much like Linda Hamilton as possible.

How come it’s always Furries and never Scalies? Turtles need love too…

  • This is the Internet. I’m sure somewhere on it Turtles are getting the same kind of love Furries get. And there’s probably not enough brain bleach out there to scour away whatever images you might find looking for it…

  • Having seen Meridian I find that I have no desire to see it again.

In fact, contrary to Corman, I don’t have a lot of desire to see most Band movies. I’m not saying they’re bad. They just aren’t hitting the right spot for me.

Well, I have seen a video on a woman that had a strange obsession with the Ninja Turtles…

I don’t know, trolling the video shelves in the ’80s, renting a lot of hopeless shot on video ’80s genre garbage, the Full Moon films (including their very nice Dr Strange movie) always delivered for me. Mileage varies, though, obviously.

I’ve seen plenty of “love” for scalies online in certain spots. That’s all I’m saying.
