Monster of the Day #3140

Well, back to reality. Sigh. Although we do have Martin Luther King Jr Day coming up later this month. Until then, though, back to the *shudder* five day work weeks.

I had never even heard of this film, Spellcaster, from 1988. However, I stumbled on the trailer on YouTube. It turns out (unsurprisingly) to be a Full Moon Entertainment film, which is fine with me. It’s out on Blu Ray from Vinegar Syndrome, who does good work. They are also (for reason–the audience for weird flicks on physical media is rather small now) kind of expensive. I missed their big Black Friday sale, but maybe they’ll have something mid-year and I can pick it up. I thought I could ride on week on it because it looked chock full of monsters, but alas, the stills of said beasties are surprisingly sparse on the interwebs. Anyway, maybe Amazon Prime will add it some time.

Ohhh cool monster! I’ve never heard of the movie either.

BTW: Just finished the second greatest movie series, Peter Jackson’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’. Just started on the greatest movie series ever, Thunder Levin’s ‘Sharknado’. Ya know if Sauron had sent an army (navy?) of sharks out to conquer Middle Earth instead of those lousy orcs we’d all be speaking the Dark Speech right now.

That is definitely a John Carl Buechler creature (a frequent collaborator with Charles Band back in the Empire days — GHOULIES, etc.). There’s a certain look to his monster faces, coming from him modeling their faces on his own in the mirror.

  • I have dental appointments in the AM tomorrow, so this is another 4 day week for me (and I was on call today, which tends to be less frantic) with no patients Thursday afternoon for staff meeting (which is boring, but not what anyone could honestly describe as work. Then a full week next week, but more training Friday AM, then they short week for the holiday, then off the next Friday for more appointments. I think I next work a whole week the first week of February. Maybe.

Thank goodness for sucking at the government tit. I’ve never had PTO or sick leave before, I could get used to it.

Also, based on the monster alone, I *need* to see this.

  • My God, the trailer! Starring Adam Ant! And those monsters! And that “acting”!

IT’S ONLY 6.99 I’VE BOUGHT WORSE FOR MORE!

Honestly, though, it looks like a Puppetmaster knockoff with better FX…

Yeah. It’s amazing how an utterly stupid idea like ‘Sharknado’ actually lead to some entertaining movies.

Good luck at the dentist and with everything else.

  • Ken_Begg

That’s a fierce recommendation, in my book.

  • Mine will be fine, it’s the two kiddos going with me that are going to have a rough time I suspect.

  • It’s not saying “don’t buy it” to me…
