Monster of the Day #3122

So with (yes) my Internet down again yesterday as they work in the area, I actually *gasp* watched a few of the huge pile of DVDs and Blu Rays I’ve bought this year. It’s already been featured here, and I don’t know if any of you have been lusting for years to see a smashingly good print of The Screaming Skull. However, there is finally one available due to the recent Scream Factory Blu Ray. This is the sort of thing that defined a lot our childhoods, a horror film we watched on TV hoping that the final reveal/climax of the movie would pay off the long stretches of nothing much happening until then. At around 70 minutes, the Screaming Skull does have a pretty fantastic ending. No commentary track, sadly, but the disc does carry the Mike Nelson MST3K episode featuring the film. Take a look at that print to see how shoddy it always looked on TV back in the day.

It’s one of those films that didn’t leave that much of an impression on me. Not good but not bad either. All I remember out of it is Micky the gardener and some screaming peacocks.

  • Beckoning Chasm

I don’t remember seeing this. I do remember seeing “The Skull” with Peter Cushing, and thought it was pretty scary.

  • Gamera977

There are several copies on YouTube including the MST3K version. I believe the film is currently in public domain.

‘Father, will you christen my new baby? I just found him in the cabbage patch!’

  • Beckoning Chasm

Yeah, I saw that episode (on YouTube). I guess I should have said “I don’t remember anything in the movie.” Presumably there was a skull, and I’m betting it screamed from time to time.

I gotta admit, this is good news to me. I’ve been wanting a pristine print of THE SCREAMING SKULL for years now.

  • Ken_Begg

It is an age of wonders, to be sure.

  • Marsden

I first saw this on a late night tv show and I was falling asleep and then he opened a drawer in his desk and nothing is in there but the music rose so much like it was such an important thing it made me jump!

I didn’t think it was a bad movie, but I can understand being underwhelmed by it.

  • Beckoning Chasm

OT, but Cult Cinema Classics now has Zontar!

  • Eric Hinkle

“We’re gonna call him Skulls O’Boney.”
