Monster of the Day #3121

Sandy kicked Saturday off with an old poverty row murder flick called The Mystery of the 13th Guest. It’s a weirdly structured film but like most such films, literal B-Films in the original sense, it was short and moved quickly and went down quite smoothly. It didn’t feature any of the down on their luck stars such as Lugosi that often appeared in these, but it was directed by William “One Shot” Beaudine.

Next up he showed something a bit more in our normal ballpark, the ’50s sci-fi monster flick Invisible Invaders. Basically having the same plot as Plan 9 from Outer Space, the somewhat more grandly scaled zombie action is a bit of a precursor to Night of the Living Dead. Stars the inevitable John Agar and a too briefly seen John Carradine. The film was part of a double bill with The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake. Man, I’d spend a lot more time in theaters if they were still making stuff like that.

  • T-Fest Tyrannosaurus films. Can somebody help me fill in the blanks?

Oops, I thought you were looking for suggestions, not history. Sorry!

  • Beckoning Chasm

I’ve always been partial to Invisible Invaders; thought it was great when I was a kid, and when I was an adult, “Oh, I was a kid back then.”

  • Gamera977

Ouch, when I first saw it I thought about ‘The Outer Limits’ episode ‘The Bellero Shield’.

I’d love to see Invisible Invaders again. Is it available for streaming?

  • It’s on Amazon Prime. Not a bad little flick, I think.

  • Thanks, Rev.

I wonder if y’all ever make it to the Carnosaur or Jurassic Park movies, or something animated like The Land That Time Forgot or We’re Back!

Outside of those, you still have PLANET OF THE DINOSAURS; CAVEMAN…uh…PREHYSTERIA?

  • The Rev.

I’m sure Planet of the Dinosaurs will happen at some point. I’d love to see Carnosaur, personally, although it might be too gory for poor Ken. The first sequel would be good for angering Kirk. Sandy would probably veto Dinosaur Island after his reaction to Nurse Sherri. Let’s see, what else? Maybe My Science Project or Valley of Gwangi (which I think was an Allosaurus, but then again, Unknown Island had ceratosaurs and I guess they figured that was close enough).
