I apologize for being a woeful dunderhead….

Friend of Jabootu Roger Hylton (who continues to burn me awesome fare from TMC) mentioned last night that The Oscar was just about to start playing on Turner Classics.  How did I not notice that?  I should have put a notice up, especially for a movie like that which isn’t on DVD and doesn’t get much TV play anymore.

Anyway, I’ll try to do better on stuff like that.  Sorry.

  • Just to remind you of a couple of upcoming movies on TCM.

The Apple is on Sat 6-21-08 at 1:00 AM.
Roller Boogie is on Sat 6-21-08 at 2:45 AM.

    Times are in Central.

Holy BIM! The Apple! I’ve been trying to catch that one for years…

Got about half way through The Oscar so far, wow, what dialog, my wife and I were totally stunned. The guys who write “Engrish” labels for Japanese products could probably write more natural dialog. Way to go Harlan Ellison

Bill Maher was the guest programmer, his ego brought this film to TCM for the first time ever.

I wonder why they never showed it before? First obvious answer is it is not a “classic”. However, I have doubts that it is even properly classified as a “movie”.

  • Geez, Roger, I’VE HAD IT UP TO HERE WITH YOUR BRINGDOWN!!!

  • Warning: I’m not going to pester Roger anymore (he’s already sending me a copy of the never seen but much heard about The Norseman), but the next time The Oscar is on, I’ll be bugging somebody else for a copy of this. My old VHS tape gave up the ghost ages ago, and I am currently lacking a copy of this essential classic.

Man, I live for the day when Hollywood churns out one more turkey this fantastic.

Will you stop beating on my ears!

Well sometime before Tivo deletes The Oscar, I might accidentally put a blank DVD into the recorder and make a copy which may or may not end up in an envelope on its way to Chicago.

Magic Hollywood! Ever think about it? I do, friend Kenny, I do…

  • Roger, I despair of every repaying in even the smallest way your generosity.

But man, nearly EVERY LINE in this movie is quotable.

I hope you don’t take it the wrong way if I say to you, “Here, pretty, pretty!”

  • The Rev. D.D.

I actually noticed it was one, got a tape ready…and then found out the next day there’s something wrong with the VCR, rendering the tape unwatchable. *le sigh*

I will have to try for The Apple Saturday.
