Monster of the Day #3023

Got a movie you want to push for a bit more home viewing before, hopefully, the lock downs start expiring? FoJ BChasm has a suggestion:
“What must be the most adorable killer robot ever, from1995’s “Screamers,” a criminally underrated film.

In the film, Peter Weller describes it as a “reptile” but anyone watching this scene can instantly see that the creature is based on a domestic cat. Its movements and behavior would be familiar to anyone who has ever lived with a cat.

I know you’re not a fan of cats, but my reaction every time I see this film is “Oo, aren’t you the most adorable killer robot! Do you want your mousie? Would you like a treat? Say, I have a laser pointer!”

So, I’d probably get my face carved off. Still, so cute!”

Not available for free on any of the streaming services I could find, but you can rent it, anyway, on YouTube.

If anyone has a personal suggestion, email me at ken@jabootu.com.

    Thanks, Ken!

There is a cat blocking my screen as I write.

Also: Be careful everyone, Asian Giant Murder Hornets have landed in North America.
Coming soon, an original SyFy production – ‘Asian Murder Hornets vs. African Killer Bees.’

It always seemed funny to me that Harlan Ellison sued James Cameron for ‘The Terminator’ ripping off his ‘Outer Limits’ story ‘Soldier’ when ‘The Terminator’ showed at least as much influence from the story, Phillip K. Dick’s ‘Second Variety’, that this movie was based on.

I watched ‘The Black Hole’ a few weeks ago. And I don’t think Maximilian, the maroon mechanical monster has ever received a MotD Ken.

I have to say, I really don’t get why people are going so crazy over the Japanese Giant Hornets (not that I want anyone to be stung by one) when you consider that Johns Hopkins has statistics that have something like 200,000-250,000 Americans dying every year from medical malpractice and incompetent doctors.

Why so much fear over the one very unlikely fate when the other is far worse and far more probable?

I loved ‘The Black Hole’ too. It’s probably seen as primitive now but when it came out the black hole SPFX awed me. And Maximilian was scary!

    No, sir, thank you!

  • Ken_Begg

    Because it’s ‘news’.

I wonder if this will be Killer Bees all over again…

I visited the Killer Bee Memorial in Houston last year. It was very moving. I hope we will never have to live through something like that again.

And General, we didn’t blame you.

It’s not because of people, but honeybees. The hornets eat them, and American bees have enough problems as it is. However, I’m seeing some reports that this could be based on a colony that was discovered in BC, but was destroyed, and a straggler may have simply gotten to America. We’ll see.

I know. In my initial post I was just trying to make a b-movie killer animal joke about a current event and then made another try and ended up failing on both counts.
