Monster of the Day #3022

Later today the Cult Cinema Classics channel on YouTube is posting the seminal Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, probably the first full length horror film. By dint of being first, it probably establishes at least 40% of all horror movie cliches, with the first supernatural horror movie, Nosferatu accounting for another 40% of better. Really, I’d say at least 90% of all horror movie tropes were first used in these films. Anyway, Caligari is also a great film, well worth a watch.

Have a great and more importantly safe weekend, everyone.

Awesome! I’ve always heard about this but so far haven’t seen it. Will give it a whirl this weekend!

BTW: Anyone else seen Reigo: King of the Sea Monsters? When I read the synopsis: the battleship Yamato vs. a Kaiju I had to see this! Only thing is- it’s not that great a film. The acting is decent, the plot isn’t though, and it was filmed on the cheap with a few tiny bland sets and FX that look like something from a 1995 computer game. It reminded me of a fan made Star Trek episode shot with very little resources. Still it’s the biggest battleship ever built vs. Godzilla!!! It is included with Amazon Prime if anyone wants to watch it.

Major Strasser had an interesting life before the war.

It’s on my to-do list, but I’ve heard it’s eh so I haven’t made huge strides in that department. Same with the follow-up Deep Sea Monster Raiga. Also, apparently they made a third one last year. I suppose I should get to them.

I’ve seen this one and it’s pretty darn bizarre. Very worth a watch.
