Monster of the Day #2090

YouTube has a nice (if nowhere near this crisp) copy of Lady Vampire from 1959. I had never even heard of that. Now I can’t find the channel anymore, though, and apparently it’s been deleted. That’s a real shame, as they had a lot of great Japanese and British horror movies. No licenses though, I’m guessing.

Lady Vampire is interesting because Japan doesn’t have a folklore backgroup on vampires, and so the film flips a lot of the lore in fun ways. It features one of the most useless ‘heroes’ I’ve never seen, and really doesn’t actually have a lady vampire at all. Still worth a look, though.

Maybe they left some punctuation out of the title. “Lady, Vampire!” “Lady?…Vampire!”

  • Gamera977

He’s the most manly ‘lady’ vampire I’ve seen in awhile.

  • bgbear_rnh

I never knew Larry Storch had played a vampire. At 97 maybe he is one ;-)

‘What do you mean she’s got the Corona virus!?!’

  • bgbear_rnh

Vampire invented the sneeze into your sleeve didn’t they?

  • Eric Hinkle

Please, no more about the Corona Virus. They’ve got maybe half a dozen cases here in Pennsylvania and everyone’s acting like they’re gonna find the Walking Dude recruiting down on the street corner amidst mountains of corpses. Shameless newspaper headlines of the “PANDEMIC HITS, WE ARE ALL GONNA DIEEEE” variety isn’t helping!

  • Eric Hinkle

I hope those two in the background are the vampire’s human stooges, else they’re the most useless girl-savers in horror movie history. Save maybe for that useless boyfriend who ditched his girlfriend to get eaten by the Creeping Terror.

  • Gamera977

    Sorry!

  • Eric Hinkle

I should’ve been more careful myself, but man am I sick of everyone going nuts over this.

  • Gamera977

I don’t blame you a bit. I can’t even listen to the news much anymore.

  • bgbear_rnh

If viruses could kill off everyone off that easily, it would have already happened a long time ago.

  • This looks like the start of some Vampire commercial.

I bring you a warning: Every one of you reading this comment, tell the internet, tell this to everybody where ever they are! Wash your hands!. Everywhere! Keep washing! Keep washing your hands!

  • ^^ This. So much this. I’ve been talking my patients off the ledge for two or three weeks at this point. And pointing out that hand washing is the single most important thing we can all be doing.

The social distancing to slow spread is not as stupid as it looks though. Even though most of us are going to be just fine, if everyone gets sick at once, due to no-one being immune, even a small percentage of seriously ill patients will be enough to overwhelm our ventiltor capacity.

As an introvert this is the moment I’ve been waiting all my life for!!! So it sucks that I’m a health Care provider and have to go to work anyway :)

  • Eric Hinkle

Agreed, ma’am, but locally (SE Pennsylvania) people are acting like it’s the end of the world — which doesn’t explain why they’re all buying toilet paper, but I digress.

  • Eric Hinkle

Ah, but this is a special virus created by Red China/Elon Musk/the CIA Reptoid Illuminati Freemason Jews to kill us all!

Sad to say that I’ve heard real-life theories almost as nuts as my joking one above. I hope it’s not true that Seattle has basically shut down everything by this point, including grocery stores. And if so then how are people gonna eat?

  • Beckoning Chasm

If you search YouTube for the original Japanese title, “onna kyuketsuki” you can still find it.

  • Gamera977

Thanks!!! I’m going to try to watch it this weekend.

  • Gamera977

One of the local hot tub shops with several links to outbreaks of Legionnaire’s Disease had a hot tub show a few weeks ago.

Um, no, no, no, no….. don’t wanna go…

  • In my corner of Virginia too, hence all the talking of my patients off ledges ;)

Fucked if I know what they are doing with all that TP though. I actually was running out a few days ago and was really embarrassed that everyone was gonna think I was just another crazy. Eggs and milk too, because snowstorm? And we are gonna get really desperate for French Toast?

  • Gamera977

Watched it Sunday and it was… interesting…

Turning into a vampire by the light of a full moon was unique. And having a ‘little person’ as his Renfield was pretty cool. And when Glenn Manning from ‘The Amazing Colossal Man’ showed up near the end it was pretty friggin’ awesome!
