Monster of the Day #2052

And so the multi-tentacled New Year carries off the exhausted old year, a ritual as old as time itself.

Hello! Yes, I’m alive. I was just enjoying a VERY lazy long weekend. Even by my standards it was epically unproductive. I got in a lot of napping, though, so that was nice. Napping, a very cheap hobby.

I hope everyone had a good holiday, and here’s to a great 2020 for everybody. I’ll see some of you in a month or so for B-Fest.

Still on the Amazon Prime thing, although I’m thinking of going in another direction at some point. This guy needs no introduction, surely.

I think it was about nine years or so that Ken posted Octaman as MotD. And I finally got a chance to see it! Was it worth the wait? Hell no! But it was still awesome, esp the scene where everyone goes back to the RV to regroup and Octaman bursts out. I agree with Ken, how the heck did he get inside with no hands or opposable thumbs to operate the latch? Did Octaman have a human confederate? Am I overthinking this???
Still the detail on the suit was pretty amazing even if frankly I don’t find it half as terrifying as the current movie version of ‘Cats’. I just wish we’d seen more of the Octaman suit and the smaller octopus mutant and less aimless running around.
BTW: Sorry again to go off subject but Amazon Prime has a German 2012 adaption of H.P. Lovecraft’s ‘The Colour Out of Space’ which I watched last night. And frankly I was impressed! Add this to the rather short list of Lovecraft movies that don’t suck. They did move the story to Germany and altered it a little bit but the meat of the story is the same. And filming it in B&W with colour used sparingly for the Colour was a brilliant move!

I am going to have to watch the Riff Trax Live version of this this weekend.

I’ll have to look for that German ‘Colour’ movie.

And talking Lovevcraft — Still the detail on the suit was pretty amazing even if frankly I don’t
find it half as terrifying as the current movie version of ‘Cats’.

No, those are cats. Unfortunately they’re the eldritch Cats of Saturn from HPL’s ‘Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath’. Though I’ve also read (joking?) theories online that it’s a furry version of ‘The King in Yellow’.

  • I wonder how long it will take before Cats shows up as a MotD…..

I would rather watch “Cat Women on the Moon”.

  • Beckoning Chasm

Yeah, I saw that version of CooS and thought it was very well done.

  • It kills me that this suit is one of Rick Baker’s (albeit early) contributions to cinema.

It would work very well for that dishonor, wouldn’t it?

  • Eric Hinkle

I was surprised to read that he didn’t want the camera to ever get a good shot of it. It’s the best thing in the whole film!

  • I saw this (or at least the tail end of it) as a kid. Might have been on Son of Svengoolie. However I saw it, it made an impression on me and I always wanted to watch it again, through out my childhood into adulthood.

    Then I saw it again.

I’m now reluctant to relive fond childhood memories.

Talk about damning with faint praise!
