Monster of the Day #2047

There are several prints of Devil Bat on Amazon Prime. None of them that I saw were pristine, but a couple at least are watchable. And let’s admit it, when we grew up watching it on analogue TV, it didn’t look perfect either. Fun, fun movie though.

What I learned from this movie: if a weird creepy guy offers you a bottle of cologne or aftershave- re-gift it…

The thing is, the movie industry had a very different focus then. Back then, a movie like The Devil Bat would have been run through the theaters and then pretty much forgotten,. There was no aftermarket, so no one was thinking “We need to make a Making Of movie, and we need to keep all the designs for model toys, and above all, we have to preserve this film for the ages.”

Nowadays, of course, the most mediocre films have everything preserved and annotated like sacred texts.

True but still I think I’d have bought a Devil Bat action figure…

Well, that’s why you could (very weirdly) make a sequel in name only several years later and turn the very clear events of the first film completely on their head.
