Monster of the Day #1968

This poster does it’s job. It takes a film that might not interest many and makes you go, “That looks great!” To a deceptive extent, but hey, caveat emptor.

That is a nice poster, kind of too bad the photographer used a flash.

Rutger Hauer RIP. All those memories will be gone…

    … like tears… in rain…

I did see the film once and found it better than I expected it to be. I’m due for another screening, though, as I’ve forgotten prettymuch all of it.

Huh, the credits say that Brian Eno wrote the soundtrack. This would be pretty close to when he entered his “ambient” phase. I wonder what it sounds like?

  • EricP

I have Eno’s, ” Music for Films” from 1978. He doesn’t say what pieces go with what films .While they’re not like his pop albums all the pieces are much more melodic that his “ambient” works.

They’re like the instrumental tracks on “Another Green World” but not as good.

  • Mike Weller

Wow…never eat Tabasco and burp too soon after. The nose hair just burns!

  • Beckoning Chasm

If I remember correctly, the idea behind Music For Films was that they *could* be used in films, not that they came from any soundtracks. But my memory’s not what it used to be.

If you search for Eno Land of the Minotaur, you’ll find a short extract that does sound like Music For Films, but kind of mixed with other stuff.

I remember hearing some of the material from “Music for Films” being used in Carl Sagan’s “Cosmos” series. It’s probable that some of the material was used in other films after the album was released even though the music wasn’t actually made for any particular film.

From my CD: “This album is compilation of fragments of my recorded work over the last two or three years. Some of it was made specifically for use as soundtrack material, some of it was made for other reasons but found it’s way into films […]”

Guess I need to watch that again this weekend. Or maybe ‘Ladyhawke.’ As much as I like the guy it’s the only two movies he was in that I think I own.

  • Arguably his two best performances…..

  • Marsden

Is that a major social mistake, inviting a Minotaur to a barbecue? What if he’s related to the main course?
