Monster of the Day #1962

We’ll see if the niece wants to make it to a third movie (after a dinner break), and if she does, what she makes of this. Frankly, if she bails and I can get her back home in time–it’s a bit of a hike–I’ll probably instead try to make that evening’s showing of Sound! Euphonium the Movie, which is only playing that night. (Subtitled, anyway.) I don’t have anything against X From Outer Space, but while I don’t know how many people has seen that in a theater three or four or five times in their life, I am one of those people. So whichever way the evening works is fine with me.

Looks like Perdue has introduced a genetically modified chicken for those who prefer dark meat.

I remember this one as pretty odd. Weird lounge music score, and a monster that looks like he has a spaceship for a head.

  • Rock Baker

I think that shot may actually be from that bizarre spoof they did a few years ago, going by the set he’s standing on.

THE X FROM OUTER SPACE is probably the closest thing we ever got to an Italian giant monster movie of this sort, which makes it doubly interesting for someone who wishes Europe had gotten in on the act during the high water period of ’66-’68. Really, the film feels very, very Italian.

Lounge music, space chicken with deely-bobbers…what’s not to love? It is a Rifftrax devoutly to be wished!

  • Mike Weller

Bet it that music. It seems fitted to an Italian adventure flick….cue “Danger:Death ray!”

  • Rock Baker

Speaking of, I wish a nice print of that one would surface. I think my print has German subtitles on it. Fun movie, though.

  • Beckoning Chasm

Wait a minute…giant monster body, space-ship head…oh my God, the Japanese re-made ROBOT MONSTER!

I swear that I saw “X” in an early promo for the MST3K re-boot. I wonder what happened. Could not get a release, or they already had “Reptilicus” and “The Beast of Hollow Mountain” which was enough big lizards for one season.

Look up “The Ladders ‘Monsters’ commercial;” or “Guilala commercial” cute.

    It’s called an X.
    I don’t know Y.
