It’s kind of unheralded but Amazon Prime has been really shoring up their selection of junk cinema lately. (Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake!) Since they added the pretty obscure trilogy of Hammer-inspired Toho vampire movies from the 70s, we showed the first one at the spring T-Fest. It was fine, but that was a mistake on my part. We should have shown the second. I didn’t want to rewatch the movies before we showed up, since I hadn’t seen them in forever. However, a cursory glance at the plots would have revealed that this, the second movie, contains the venerable Hammer trope of being set in a girl’s school. So vampires and pretty Japanese ladies and even some surprising (for Toho, anyway, if not Hammer) breast-baring and best of all a compact 82 run time and you have a pretty entertaining flick. The vampires are pleasingly traditional except that, for obvious reasons, crosses don’t come into play, which rather hampers the good guys. Anyway, check it out. Evil of Dracula (it’s not really Dracula) on Amazon Prime.
