Monster of the Day #1880

After Food of the Gods, we got the cheesy but sleazy Hypnotic Eye, surely the inspiration for Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Wizard of Gore. This was followed up by my favorite film this year, Get Crazy, a nutty comedy by Allan “Rock N Roll High School” Arkush that was far funnier than I anticipated.

Then we got the return of Creeping Terror. Yay! This was the mainstay of the Fest before the actual film copy (kids, ask your parents) was pulled from market. I don’t know why they ran it back to back with Plan 9, but there you go. This was on our short list of films to sponsor, Since somebody else picked it, so it was like getting a freebie.

I’ll give them this–they at least tried to do a unique monster.

  • Rock Baker

I have to wonder if the film would be known today (you know, by more than die-hard genre fans) if the film’s complete soundtrack hadn’t been lost. I’m sure it would still be considered weak tea, but would it be as notorious?

  • Eric Hinkle

Given all the scenes of young lovelies getting slurped down kicking and screaming by the monster, I think so.

  • Gamera977

I’ll give them ‘The Creeping Terror’ is a much better title than ‘It Came From Carpetland USA.’

  • Rock Baker

I remain baffled by the carpet remarks, honestly. The creature looks like it was made of sheets of rubber.

Take the same plot/story and money and talent and you might have a good film.

  • Flangepart

Well, in cheap B&W, the ‘texture’ of the critter is hard to Gage…
