Monster of the Day #1871

Bruce Timm (along with Paul Dini) was the guy who created Batman the Animated series and ultimately the extended DC Animated Universe, encompassing quite a few shows, that easily represented my favorite discrete version of the DC universe. I would die happy if Timm would do with same with the Marvel Universe (and he’s clearly interested, as an episode or two in Justice League Unlimited is clearly based on Marvel’s core lineup of The Defenders, with Dr. Fate, Solomon Grundy and Aquaman filling in for Dr. Strange, the Hulk and Namor.)

Timm is probably best known now as the creator of the far better original version of Harley Quinn in B:TAS. Timm also posts a lot of truly lovely retro artwork that tends to feature superheroes, monsters and ‘good girl’ art.

He has an entire book, “Naughty But Nice” which is filled with his bad girl art. NSFW and all that.

His girlie art is most impressive in it’s deceptively simple design aesthetic. It’s much harder than it looks to reproduce. Certainly a unique talent.

Really? Maybe I should look for that book.

To be honest I’m surprised he’d be permitted to publish such a thing given his work with DC. I would think they’d be worried about bad publicity or the like.

EDIT: I just went looking for that book on Amazon. $240 for an ‘Acceptable’ paperback copy? Yikes!

Whoa. I paid nowhere near that (of course it was several years ago).
