Monster of the Day #1859

I am embarrassed that I’ve not seen any of these movies. And gee whiz I’ve got enough movies on DVD with European and Asian vampires. And a Latino vampire if Paul Naschy counts. I feel like I’m racist against black vampires now… :(

PS: Thinking more about it I have seen the Eddie Murphy vampire movie though I don’t have it DVD.

I am always surprised on how much better it is than you would expect and it does have a lot to do with the star.

It’s amazing to think that every single good thing about this movie and the sequel is almost 100% due to William Marshall. What an actor that man was.

I have to say it isn’t one of Grier’s more compelling roles. She is still pretty early in her career and while the charisma is there, her role doesn’t have quite the strength of character (at least to start) that would become a standard for her. She does have the guts to take Mamuwalde down in the end, so that is something, but it just isn’t my favorite part with her.

“Scream Blacula Scream” will however always now be associated in my head with my last deployment as it was the very last thing I saw before leaving the country. Not for any of the usual reasons for me to be watching a crappy movie, but because it happened to be showing on the big screen in the waiting room while I was passing time pending my final medical clearance. I wasn’t really paying attention until I heard the voice and went “isn’t that WIlliam Marshall? What the hell are they showing?”
