Monster of the Day #1832

Is it just me, or is some of this art a bit weird?

So since she has a white cat she’s the good witch? Riding on the rabbit (or is it a deer) broom in front of the cantaloupe/honeydew jack o’lantern moon?

    White cat privilege.

Again with the “Pictures of cats drawn by people who have never seen a cat”…

It’s almost like someone created a computer program to create Halloween imagery based on keywords fed into it and the program randomly selects a handful of them to make the image. In this case: witch, broom, pumpkin, moon, cat (but not specifically a black one), owl, (or bats? what are those?). Some smarty pants fed some Easter words in too so we get a bunny head on the broom. I don’t really think this since they look pretty legit vintage, but they ARE weird. Maybe the artist was told to produce X-number of different designs…

“Mo-om, gramma’s off her meds again!”

It could be a cut and paste job, recycling bits and pieces from other holidays with a little touch up. I know little of printing, but your idea could explain the weirdness and odd look of the cats.

Looks like Radagast’s (from the movie!) wife to me.

I saw a TV show about the history of Halloween years ago and some things weren’t set in stone back then. AKA carving a gourd into a Jack O’Lantern instead of a pumpkin. I don’t remember much of it but I wouldn’t be surprised to see rabbits linked in there somewhere.

In parts of England there used to be a lot of legends about witches turning into rabbits or hares. That might be it.
