Monster of the Day #1822

Ultraman (?) vs the Japanese version of the killer from College Girl Murders.

    Disco Cyberman vs Alpha Centauri.

Is that a tentacle in your pocket, or are you glad to see me?

  • Rock Baker

Recently saw THE COLLEGE GIRL MURDERS, actually. Pretty good.

  • bgbear_rnh

Were any college girls murdered or did any college girls murder anyone? ;-)

Just recently re-watched MST3K version “Teen-Age Strangler” where by the end you realize that no teenagers were strangled or alternative no teenager strangled anyone. A blue herring of a title.

That’s Ultraman Leo; you can tell by the crazy-ass crest on his head, which is pretty unique for an Ultra. His opponent is Nova, a crazy gas-spiting alien invader. Unlike a lot of kaiju who are insane-looking because of reasons, Nova is actually based on a Japanese doll called a teru teru bozu, which is believed to bring good weather, in particular stopping or preventing rain. This is a good choice for October, seeing as how those dolls look like the ghost dolls some of you may have made as a kid out of suckers and tissue paper for Halloween.

I can never forget Dr. Forrester’s comment on ‘Pod People’ that the movie contains neither pods nor people…

BTW: I got my catalog from Movies Unlimited- they’re running a Halloween horror movie sale. Not sure how good the deals are but I’m looking at picking up a dozen or so. Would appreciate any advice on good ones to pick up- I think I already have most of the better ones.

They’ve got twelve of the Puppet Master films in a collection for $13.99- are they even worth that much???

  • Eric Hinkle

Boy, and I really wonder if that was the best location for Red Hood kaiju to be sticking that (I assume) tentacle out from.

  • Beckoning Chasm

I just noticed that the monster has an ascot. So, when the mask gets pulled off, is it going to be Fred underneath?

  • bgbear_rnh

teru teru bozu aha, I knew there was something it reminded me of

  • Gamera977

What is it with the Japanese and tentacles???

  • bgbear_rnh

It is really painful to be hit in the tentacles.

  • The Rev.

I’d say the first five would be worth that all together, mostly due to the second and third entries, although the other three have some fun and/or cheesy moments. However, if you can get the first five movies for less than $13.99, that’d be the way to go. Honestly, from Curse on there hasn’t been a remotely decent one produced. Admittedly, I haven’t seen the 12th, which ends the “Axis” trilogy, but with 10 being a disappointment overall and 11 managing to be a bigger disappointment, I have seen no reason to bother. I also haven’t had a chance to see the reboot, which has my interest piqued enough to give it a shot.

It’s a cultural thing. Seriously. Hey, they said as much on Wikipedia so it must be true, right? XD

  • Gamera977

Well, it’s twelve movies on 3 DVDs so if only the first five are good I can use the others for drink coasters ;) Thanks!!!

  • Gamera977

I was thinking of those bop bags they made back in the ’70s.
