Monster of the Day #1794

If you’re a drunk salarywoman otaku, and you stumble across a gigantic pissed off dragon, of course you try to hug it. This show bypasses my general disinterest in dragons by having them mostly in human form, and by featuring the absolute cutest character in the creation of anything. Sadly, no second season seems to be on the horizon. In anime, it’s like 800 episodes or 12, it seems.

I will say the main character dragon is pretty neat, though.

Wow. Not only had I not watched this, but I had never even heard of it. :-) Thanks for the recommend!

Anime is getting really good at portraying ordinary working class people. The culture is different, but there is still a lot of relatable things for any office/retail/food worker. I really liked “The Devil Is a Part-Timer!” more than I expected.

Also, not scifi/fantasy, but I really enjoyed “Aggretsuko” about an Office Lady who blows off frustration with karaoke death metal. Office staff are all Sanrio type animals.

  • The Devil is a Part Timer! is awesome, one of the big three of modern Anime as far as I’m concerned (the other two are One Punch Man and My Hero Academia)

Actually, this show can be interestingly compared to Usagi Drop (Bunny Drop), a series that also features a (far more realistic) salary man whose life is disrupted and permanently changed when he also finds himself adopting an adorable young girl. No dragons in that one, and the comedy is far less raucous, but they are both great shows.

Love is Hard for Otakus on Amazon is a great romcom featuring adult office workers.

I really like Aggretsuko! I hope they make more of them

Huh, the trailer for “Aggretsuko” didn’t really grab me despite the premise. Maybe I should give it a shot.
