Monster of the Day #1772

I kind of feel this is a spoiler, given that the monster apparently doesn’t appear until the end, but here it is. This film has a nice reputation in a low-key sort of way, and would presumably make a good companion to another 80s monster in a mine flick The Boogens.

I miss the rent a DVD version of Netflix, as its nearly impossible now to catch all the obscurities that have been released on Blu Ray if you don’t have the money to buy them.

Has Netflix dropped DVDs entirely? I had to cancel my subscription some months back, and my plan was DVDs only.

  • Ericp

I’m still on it. I will eventually quit though as they don’t seem to be adding much to their collection and don’t seem to be replacing old dvds when they where out.

It is like Netfilix sucked you in with cool old stuff and now what to dictate to you what you should watch. Amazon Prime has all the oddities now.

Like a pile of irritable bowels.

Would you recommend Amazon Prime over NetFlix? To be honest seems like recently NetFlix seems to be more interested in pushing their own productions and TV shows over movies. I’ve been watching mostly Korean and Chinese movies lately and found a few services that deal in only Asian cinema like AsianCrush. I haven’t subscribed to any of them yet.

I would hate to be on the hook for a recommendation, but Netflix seems to disappoint me more and more. Still a lot there for everyone and I am glad it is my wife’s decision and not mine when it comes to spending entertainment dollars.

I do think Amazon has more for people like us Jabootu fans with lots of films included in prime membership and even more for a small extra fee.

Say, does anyone know what’s happening with Rock Baker? It feels like it’s been weeks since he showed up here.

  • Rock Baker

I wasn’t able to log in because Disqus changed their something or other and to update meant giving them access to more information than I really wanted to give them. But I bit the bullet, and here I am again. Thanks for your concern!

  • Rock Baker

So what is this flick? I like THE BOOGENS, so another film kinda sorta like it would be welcome to join the library….

  • Eric Hinkle

Good to know. I was also concerned because it’d been a week or more since the ‘Cheesecake’ page on Facebook had updated in my feed. And you do that pretty regularly.

  • The Rev.

It’s called The Strangeness. Braineater reviewed it and The Boogens together a while back. I haven’t seen it, but his review made me more interested than the blurb in my old video guide ever did.

  • Gamera977

Thanks, I was just testing the waters on a few more options. I looked at Hulu but they seem to be mostly TV shows.

  • Gamera977

Andrew Borntreger has a great review over on BadMovies too. I was trying to find it but couldn’t remember the title to look it up- thanks!!!

  • Rock Baker

Facebook was bogging down the computer on certain pages, causing the computer to turn itself off. The ASOC page in particular seemed to cause trouble so I opted to post a link there to the main page of the SOC blog and leave off with the daily links. The blog itself is still updating regularly, God willing.

  • Eric Hinkle

Thanks for letting me know. I hope you can settle the FB problems.

  • Rock Baker

A newer, faster computer should do the trick.
