Monster of the Day #1747

Back in the pre-code days lots of companies competed (if generally not artistically) with the fabled EC Comics. ACG was one such company, and put quite a few horror books. These tended to be sort of dopey but at their best had that fever dream quality you get when logic need not apply. However, you can see that there were a limited number of Jack Kirbys and Jack Davises. Still, plenty of kids (and nerdy adults) were enticed to drop their dime.

These comics and a lot of similar titles (Out of the Dark, Black Cat, etc.,) have gotten deluxe hardcover reprints from Roy Thomas’ PS Artworks. The Dick Briefer Frankenstein reprint volumes are certainly worth a gander if you come across one. The books list at a hefty $50 or so, but keep on eye on eBay and you can usually get them piecemeal at a far better price. Half a Million and Half Price Books stores are also good sources.

Sounds cool, ya gotta love these!!!

This issue though, is the snakeman wearing a loincloth? Is it a bib that slipped down? Seems like it would be a bear to keep that from sliding right off his tail.

The travel agent assured us that the name “Terror Island” was not to be taken too literally

So, he’s a snakeman who apparently doesn’t have legs…so why is he wearing pants?

  • Flangepart

    Human/snake transformation happening here?
Also, a dialogue balloon in use? How often does that happen, percentage wise?

You know what would be a great MOTD? The Globgolabgalab. That would be a MOTD people would…talk about.
